Question: Could there be another solution besides carbon?

That is a great question. If scientists could find another material or create a material that only sticks to or can be directed to sick or damaged bone then that would work too. Carbon nano particles are what we studied because someone is out lab discovered that they stick to broken, healing bone, but other labs may find additional materials or engineer additional materials that have similar properties.
